Definition:

Matting is a ground covering product made of a variety of materials that provides protection until vegetation is established.

Uses:

Slopes, drainage ways, detention ponds and wetland restoration areas. Type of product used is based on type of soil, degree of slope and the concentration of potential water flows.

Narrative:

Matting comes in a variety of materials, strengths and sizes. Matting provides temporary protection against sediment flows until ground vegetation is established. Several methods of stapling material to ground surface are acceptable, matting should be overlapped appropriately to accomodate direction of water flows and it is recommended that the ends of matting are healing into existing soil. Good ground contact with matting material is essential for optimum results and Revegetation. Ground surface should be smooth to avoid matting to tent.

Advantages:
